FCC Camp 2010
Greetings Campers! In these cold and wintry days set your mind on fun in the sun with FCC Camp this coming June 18, 19 & 20. Families from around Maryland will come together to roast marshmallows, sing camp songs, make arts and crafts, and just hang out. Last year’s inaugural camp, “Camp Babe, Year of the Muddy Foot,” was a smashing success thanks to all the campers that came out. We expect this year, led by Master Tigress, to build on the fun. Camp activities will include pool time, boating on the Chesapeake Bay, archery, ropes course, age group activities, and more, including an evening dance party! You can also simply relax, have a massage, take a Tai Chi class, and hang with friends.

Please join us for the first FCC 6 and Under Club event scheduled for Sunday November 8th at 12noon (weather permitting). We will be meeting at Leakin Park on Windsor Mill Rd to ride the model steam trains. The park and train rides are free, as well as parking. Picnic tables are available if you want to bring a snack and they have a terrific playground. For directions and more information about the trains and the park please visit the Chesapeake and Allegany Steam Preservation website (http://calslivesteam.org/). We hope you will come to meet other FCC families with young children. More activities for this age group will be planned throughout the year. In this workshop we will learn how to enhance your own natural beauty. Everyone will have a chance to see appropriate make up applications suitable to Asian skin colors, with the emphasis on clean and fresh skin. We will review various types of skin care routines. We will talk about the texture and care of Asian hair, styles that are easiest to maintain, effective hair products, and coloring that is damaging to Asian hair.

Maggie Mei Lewis, 15, will speak at the FCC Maryland Fall Festival on Saturday, October 3rd. Maggie Mei and her mom (a founding member of FCC Maryland) will speak about the experience of writing a book and getting it illustrated and published. Maggie Mei will read from her book and also have signed copies available for sale at the festival. This is Maggie Mei's first book and she recently appeared at the Baltimore Book Fair. Attachment and Adoption:
The Intersection of Our Children's Lives
All parents desire that magical relationship with their children. However, since adoptive parents don't share the gene pool, ethnicity, nor were present during infancy, their relationship is based exclusively on psychological ties. Often, with only a small photograph and a large wait, we begin weaving dreams about our children-to-be. And when we finally meet them, we immediately set out to build that special parent-child bond.
For the most part, children do attach to their parents over time, and parents are relieved that they are not faced with the dreaded reactive attachment disorder. However, there may be some lingering behaviors, such as excessive "clingy-ness," control issues, subtle signs that are not present in biological families. This lecture will address the intersection of attachment and adoption. The presenter is an adoptive parent and clinical social worker who specializes in attachment, early childhood trauma, adoption.
