Catholic Charities T.I.P.S (Together in Parenting)
Presents our Fall Worshop:
"The ABC's of Adoption at School"
"Is that your REAL mom?"
"Your science class homework is to write a report on your inherited traits"
"Please bring food which reflects your family heritage"
School can be a minefield of potentially negative comments or intrusive questions for an adopted child, especially each year as they meet new people who don't know their adoption history. Curriculum topics such as studying inheritance in science class or celebrating diversity may cause discomfort or uncertainty. Or they may trigger thoughts about birthparents. Your child may not tell you about it.
Share your experiences with other adoptive parents and learn tips on how to coach your child to be prepared to handle these situations and comments with confidence and be more open to sharing it with you!
Don't miss this important workshop presented by Marcy Gitt – experienced adoptive parent and adoption social worker
Date: Thursday, October 8, 2009 Time: 7:00 – 9:00 PM Location: First Presbyterian Church of Howard County 9325 Presbyterian Circle, Columbia 21045
Fee: $25 per individual $35 per couple (please RSVP by Oct. 5)
